Penn see off Staines & Lammas

PENN & Tylers Green cruised to a 3-0 victory over Staines & Lammas at French School Meadow on Saturday, as the race for promotion continues to intensify in Combined Counties League Division One.

On an afternoon when the club paid tribute to late, great club secretary Andreas Latta before kick-off, Penn took an early stranglehold of the game following Felix Prudden’s close-range finish in the fifth minute.

The home side failed to let go of that lead thereafter.

Three minutes from half-time, defender Chris Ellis slotted home following a brilliantly-worked move to put Penn in control.

And the points were confirmed if they weren’t already come the 74th minute, when skipper Jamie Essex added his name to the scoresheet.

Speaking post-match, joint-manager Gio Sepede said: “We got the job largely done in the first half – it was a professional, hard-working display.

“It was so fitting that we got the game on today, so that we could honour Andreas. His two sons, Conor and Kieran, were here with us.

“He was so special to us and we will miss him dearly. I’m sure he’ll be up there smiling tonight.”

Penn return to action next Saturday, travelling to take on Step 5 outfit Dunstable Town in a friendly arranged owing to a two-week break in league fixtures.
