Late, late defeat at Denham

PENN & Tylers Green Ladies were beaten at the death by Denham United on Sunday – who remain unbeaten in the league this season following this 3-2 success.

Two contentious penalty awards were the major talking point from this game, with Tara Woodward’s brace ultimately not enough to earn Penn a share of the spoils.

League leaders Denham edged in front against the run of play through Sofia Harris, before Woodward’s expert lob – latching onto Caitlin Thorpe’s through pass – put Penn on terms for the interval.

After the restart, the home side retook the lead from their first penalty award – Liana Horwood converting from 12 yards.

Penn equalised for a second time in the 85th minute when Woodward latched onto substitute Molly Woods’ ball to round the goalkeeper and slot home.

However, just when the visitors thought they’d won a late point, there was drama at the death.

Denham were awarded another penalty, with Horwood’s initial effort saved by Hannah Jones before the former reacted first to the rebound to finish.

A cruel end to the game for Dan Gray’s ladies, who welcome Abingdon United to French School Meadow next Sunday before a festive break in fixtures.

Penn: Jones, Baden, Mackay, Harnby, Wyncoll, Scott-Green, Troth, Thorpe, Brockwell, Lovelock, Woodward.

Subs: Tobin, Misselbrook, Thompson, Empson, Woods.
