KAJTEK Halatyn’s late winner was the difference as Penn & Tylers Green took bragging rights against Holmer Green at Watchet Lane on Tuesday night.
Following a nip-and-tuck first half that lacked any real quality, hosts Holmer Green wasted a golden opportunity to edge ahead moments before half-time after missing a penalty.
Joint-managers James Pritchard and Gio Sepede made a treble substitution during the second half – changing shape in the process – and it was a decision that ultimately paid dividends.
With 12 minutes remaining, Halatyn capitalised on a goalkeeping error – keeping his composure to produce an expert lob that ultimately secured all three points.
While the contest wasn’t always pretty, this win made it eight games unbeaten for Penn while also adding another clean sheet for the season.
Boss Pritchard said: “It was a big win for us. We weren’t at our best, but we found a way.
“At half-time, we spoke about what we could do to improve our performance. It was a scrappy game, which is not us, and they missed a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
“We knew we could do better at half-time and we needed to find some quality – it was just that from Kajtek.
“We’re very happy to take three points given the performance.”
