Penn held by league leaders

PENN & Tylers Green were held by league leaders Woodley United in a thoroughly-entertaining goalless draw at French School Meadow on Saturday.

Following a special ticket offer for this game, some 147 spectators witnessed a highly-competitive top-of-the-table clash in HP10.

The first half was an even affair in which both sides gave very little away.

Penn pressed on after half-time, though, creating chances to take all three points but falling just short in the final third.

Substitute Kajtek Halatyn spurned the home side’s best chance to edge ahead – racing in behind but shooting straight at Woodley goalkeeper Joe Hill who was in excellent form on the afternoon.

Penn joint-manager Gio Sepede said: “I thought we played very well.

“We’re disappointed that we didn’t take all three points, but we can’t fault the energy and effort of the players. It tells you something about the performance that we’re disappointed not to beat a team now beaten just once in 20 games.

“Credit to Woodley, they defended well and made it difficult for us. We’ll take the positives from this game and move on to next week.”

Penn host Molesey at French School Meadow next Saturday.
