First loss in nine for Penn
PENN & Tylers Green fell to a first defeat in nine games on Saturday – beaten 1-0 by play-off chasers Westside at French School Meadow.
On a thoroughly damp afternoon in HP10, Penn started brightly and had opportunities to edge in front.
However, the home side were unable to capitalise on those chances – with Westside growing in confidence as a result.
The visitors duly hit the front in the 68th minute, with Calum Reeves’ second-half strike ultimately proving decisive.
Joint-Penn manager James Pritchard said: “Credit to Westfield, they posed a threat throughout.
“But we gave them the momentum because we weren’t as good as we can be. It just didn’t work out for us, for whatever reason.
“That happens, you can have days like today. We kept working, kept trying and we had a few half-chances where we could have nicked a point.
“Overall, it wasn’t our day – but we’ve played 21 league games and only lost two. We’ve just set the bar very high and it’s disappointing when you don’t hit that.
“We’ll be itching to put things right at home against Spartans Youth on Tuesday night.”
