Penn power past Spelthorne

PENN & Tylers Green produced a ruthless second-half performance to dispatch Spelthorne Sports 4–1 away from home on Saturday, maintaining their push for promotion in Combined Counties League Division One.

Substitute Lennon Moore’s brace after half-time (minutes 72 and 90+1) added to Dan Callan’s own goal (33) and Kajtek Halatyn’s 56th-minute strike.

Penn edged in front just after the half-hour mark following a right-wing corner. Debutant Mirko Jovanovic – arriving from Hillingdon Borough – sent over a teasing cross that was turned into his own net by Callan.

The visitors doubled their lead 12 minutes into the closing half. More good work from Jovanonic saw him tee up Halatyn in the box, who took a touch to set himself before smashing home.

Spelthorne threatened to set up a grandstand finale when a defensive clearance smashed back off Heesu Lee before fortuitously darting into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal on 71 minutes.

However, sub Moore replied for Penn just a minute later to make the closing stages significantly more comfortable for Gio Sepede and James Pritchard’s men. The attacker raced in behind before smashing low past Spelthorne goalkeeper Kevin Wheeler.

The points were doubly safe when Moore added his second goal in stoppage time, reacting first to Freddie Pritchard’s initial shot that was saved to head home on the line.

On the balance of play, the margin of victory could have been more greater. Nonetheless, this win sets the team up nicely for the top-of-the-table clash with Woodley United at French School Meadow next Saturday, 15th November.
