Ladies exit FA Cup at Sutton

PENN & Tylers Green and Sutton United Women shared seven goals in the third qualifying round of this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.

Played at Dorking Wanderers’ Meadowbank Stadium, Dan Gray’s Penn put up a valiant fight against their fifth-tier hosts but ultimately fell to a 5-2 defeat.

Penn made the perfect start, edging ahead inside five minutes through Shannon Read before Milly Cutter provided an instant reply for the home side.

Sutton hit the front for the first time through K’shaela Burch-Waldron in the 22nd minute and subsequently didn’t look back.

Burch-Waldron doubled her personal tally on 38 minutes to make it 3-1, before Beth Humphrey’s penalty on the stroke of half-time put the hosts firmly in control.

Penn refused to go out without a fight and Tara Woodward’s 74th-minute strike put the visitors back within two goals.

But it was Sutton’s day, ultimately, with Gabby Williams rounding off the scoring in the final minute of normal time.

Penn: Jones, Baden, Mackay, Harnby, Wyncoll, Scott-Green, Brockwell, Troth, Read, Lovelock, Woodward.

Subs: Misselbrook, Thompson, Thorpe, Empson, Harrison, Southby, Stopforth.
