Penn suffer midweek defeat at Abingdon

PENN & Tylers Green were left disappointed on Tuesday evening as they suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Abingdon United in the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North.

At Northcourt, Penn – on the back of a three-game winning run – found themselves trailing at the break after Christopher Castle opened the scoring for the hosts in the 32nd minute.

Penn responded immediately after the restart, with Aitor Andon finding the net in the 46th minute to bring the visitors level and give them renewed hope of taking something from the contest.

However, Abingdon regained the lead just four minutes later when Bradley Walton struck in the 50th minute, leaving Penn with work to do once again.

The hosts extended their advantage late on as Castle scored his second of the evening in the 84th minute, before Helton Biague added a fourth in stoppage time.

Penn refused to give up, and Joel Ellis grabbed a late consolation in the 96th minute, but it proved too little, too late to change the outcome.

The defeat brought a frustrating end to Penn’s midweek trip, with the side now looking to respond positively in their next fixture.

Penn will have the opportunity to get back to winning ways when they travel to face Amersham Town on Saturday.
