THE OPPOSITION
About Wokingham Town
Wokingham Town Football Club was originally founded in 1875 and is nicknamed “The Satsumas,” a reference to the club’s orange shirts. In its long history the club progressed through the Ascot & District League, which it won in 1912-13, and the Great Western Combination, before competing in the Metropolitan, Delphian, Corinthian and Athenian Leagues. Wokingham reached the Isthmian League, winning the Division One title in 1981-82 and playing in the Premier Division from 1982 to 1995. The club’s honours include four Berks & Bucks Senior Cup wins (1968-69, 1982-83, 1984-85 and 1995-96) and five Reading Senior Cups between 2008-09 and 2014-15, while its best FA Cup run reached the first round in 1982-83.
The original Wokingham Town played its final match in 2004 before merging with Emmbrook Sports to form Wokingham & Emmbrook. That club re-established senior football in Wokingham at Lowther Road for the 2019-20 season, and in 2024 reverted to the historic Wokingham Town name to mark its 150th anniversary. Having moved into the Combined Counties League Premier Division North in 2021, Wokingham Town plays its home matches at Lowther Road. For the 2026-27 season the club competes in the Combined Counties League Premier Division North, at Step 5 of the English non-league football system.
