THE OPPOSITION

About Reading City

Reading City Football Club was founded in 2001 as Highmoor Ibis, formed through the merger of Highmoor and Ibis, two clubs then playing in the Reading Football League. Nicknamed The Cityzens, the club took Highmoor’s place in the senior ranks and won the Reading Senior League championship in 2003/04 without losing a match. It added the Reading Senior Cup in 2005/06, defeating Woodley Town 4-1 in the final. The club climbed into the Hellenic League Division One East in 2010/11 and reached the Hellenic League Premier Division in 2011/12, finishing as runners-up in 2014/15. In 2018, the club was rebranded from Highmoor Ibis to Reading City to better represent the town.

After transferring to the Combined Counties League Premier Division North at the end of the 2020/21 season, Reading City established itself at Step 5, finishing fourth in 2023/24 and reaching the play-off semi-finals. The club plays its home games at the Rivermoor Stadium on Scours Lane in the Tilehurst area of Reading, having previously used Palmer Park Stadium.
