Matchday Programme

Welcome

Saturday 18th April 2026
15:00
Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League Division One

We welcome you all to today’s game – a truly historic day for our football club as we celebrate winning the Combined Counties League Division One title and promotion from Step Six to Step Five football.

This is the culmination of a 10-year journey from the first time that we won the league back in the old Hellenic Football League days. But we were unable to take promotion due to lack of floodlights.

Ten years later, two ground-shares, numerous different management teams, ups, but mainly downs on that journey. We arrive back today at the top of the league and rightfully being able to gain our position at Step Five.

It’s quite ironic that 10 years ago, Giovanni Sepede and James Pritchard were our management team. And today, once again, they stand together now with three league titles under their belt, leading this team through a magnificent season, and especially this long unbeaten run that we’ve been on since Christmas.

Getting to this stage is a massive achievement for the team on the pitch. It’s not just about the first team, though. Three years ago, I brought Gio back to the football club and gave him the brief to build a pathway for our young players into senior football. He persuaded Jim to come back and bring his successful junior team, which established our Allied Counties team.

Many of those boys are in our first-team squad today and celebrating a great victory. We’ve also, in that time, created our Under-23 team, which is a valuable stepping stone into senior football. It’s this pathway, I think, which has laid the foundations for the success we see today.

On top of that, we’ve also recruited some great senior players into the club. But it’s not just a case of recruiting talent. That talent then needs to be moulded into an amazing culture. And football at this level is a true squad effort. We’ve played over 20 players in this last run of games, and to keep everybody happy, motivated and ready to perform is a huge, huge testament to the management of our management team.

Around the club and off the pitch, there are people who have contributed massively to this achievement. John Grimsdale, a stalwart of the club, has been there through the previous championship victories, through the ups, through the downs, and is here today. He should be applauded for his contribution and effort to all these teams.

Off the pitch, Toni and Keith feeding, making the clubhouse such a success that it is. The pitch we play on – Cuch, Steve Robins – the work they do around the ground to get it into condition that we see today is a huge effort, especially given the extremely wet winter that we just had.

The whole committee, the work that everybody does around the junior section, safeguarding, finance, I applaud each and every one of them.

There’s one man who would have had the biggest smile on his face today, and sadly, he couldn’t quite make the end of the journey. But he’s been on this journey for the last 10 years, stood side by side with me, building pitches, fighting legal battles to get floodlights, being there when there wasn’t many people watching and people doubted the plan that we had in place.

He stood there, believed, stuck to the plan, and was the loyalest person you could ever wish for – and the hardest worker as well. Andreas Latta is sadly not with us, but today we thank him again for everything he’s done to enable us to arrive at this point.

Andreas, this one’s for you, mate.

I hope everybody enjoys their day. Thank you for coming and supporting our club, and we look forward to seeing you all again next season when we start our campaign in the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League.

THE OPPOSITION

About Oxhey Jets

Oxhey Jets Football Club was formed in 1972 as a youth team, before progressing into a senior team in the early 1980s.

The Jets joined the Herts Senior County League in 1981, competing in Division One. After gaining promotion in 1989, the club spent 15 seasons in the Premier Division before being rewarded with a place in the Spartan South Midlands League in 2004.

The 2004/05 season saw The Jets gain their second successive promotion when they became Spartan South Midlands League Division One champions. As a result of competing in the Premier Division in the 2005/06 season, they were able to make their debut in the FA Cup. Unfortunately, The Jets lost at home to Lowestoft Town in the preliminary round.

In February 2012, Oxhey Jets became only the second ever Spartan South Midlands League club to reach the final of the Herts Senior Cup, when they overcame Cheshunt in the semi-final. They were beaten 7–2 in the final by Bishop’s Stortford.

Having spent 18 years as part of the Spartan South Midlands League, in May 2022 Oxhey Jets were unexpectedly shuffled sideways into the Combined Counties League Premier Division North from the 2022/23 campaign. Following relegation that season, The Jets currently ply their trade in Division One.
