Penn see off Spartans to stay top

SECOND-HALF goals from Jeffrey Fordjour and Kajtek Halatyn saw Penn & Tylers Green retain top spot in Combined Counties League Division One with a 2-0 victory over Spartans Youth on Saturday.

Amid blustery conditions at The Orchard, Penn had chances to break the deadlock in the first half.

However, victory was secured after half-time – Fordjour opening the scoring in a well-worked visiting move on 63 minutes.

Halatyn came from the bench to make sure of the win on 87 minutes.

Joint-manager James Pritchard said: “We had to really work for that win.

“In the first half, we went against the wind but managed it very well. We limited Spartans to very few opportunities.

“We also created a few and were perhaps disappointed that we didn’t take a goal into half-time.

“We just needed to relax a little bit and play some of our football, which we were allowed to do in the second half given the way the opposition sat in. We took advantage of the wind and got more control. We had lots more possession and scored two very good goals.”

Needing a maximum of just two wins from their final four league fixtures to secure promotion, Penn welcome Spelthorne Sports to French School Meadow on Easter Monday.
