Penn in Benfica comeback

A HARD-FOUGHT draw with late drama saw Penn & Tylers Green rescue a point away to Sport London e Benfica, after the hosts raced into a two-goal first-half lead but played much of the second half with ten men.

In a bright start, Benfica struck twice in quick succession.

Thiago Brito opened the scoring on 31 minutes and, just two minutes later, Egidio Mahmoud doubled that advantage to give the home side a 2-0 half-time lead.

However, in what was the ultimate game of two halves, Penn battled back to take a share of the spoils.

Early in the second half, the visitors were handed a lifeline when Charlie Losasso converted a 48th-minute penalty to make it 2–1.

Then shortly after, Benfica were reduced to 10 men as Louis Ryan-Spearing was sent off, shifting further momentum toward the visitors.

Despite Benfica’s defensive resilience, Penn persistence was finally rewarded in the 89th minute when Aaron Jewell levelled the match – heading home from Losasso’s corner to secure a share of the points.

Our men’s first team return to action in a fortnight, welcoming Sandhurst Town to French School Meadow on Saturday 1st November.
