THE OPPOSITION

About Spartans Youth

Spartans Youth FC was founded in 2006 with the aim of providing affordable football with clear and structured training to children of all ages and abilities. It is a grassroots organisation run by volunteers. Since its inception, well over 700 young people have trained and played in one of the many league teams. Spartans are based in the Brentford area of west London and use and maintain pitches within Boston Manor and Carville Hall Park. Along with having Charity status, they are a Club England accredited club affiliated to the Middlesex FA. Their first young teams played in the Harrow Soccer 7s and Harrow Youth League and the hard work and organisation soon paid off with divisional success followed by cup final appearances within the league and Middlesex competitions. This success inevitably led to an expansion of teams and the associated work. Having produced a string of young players for local professional clubs’ academies and having trained a good number of players all the way from Under-7s to U18s, there appeared an obvious need for an adult team. Therefore in 2015/16, Spartans Youth FC (Adult) joined the Middlesex County Football League. With five or six of the men’s teams also playing U18s on a Sunday, there was a lot of growing up that went on! Despite finishing second the following season, a decision was made to move to the Surrey County Premier League for season 2018/19. Four seasons with Surrey (which included two Covid-impacted seasons), a groundshare at Northwood FC in order to comply with ground regulations for a move to Step 6, and their on-pitch performances – including a Middlesex Intermediate County Cup win – led Spartans to their debut season in the Combined Counties Football League for season 2022/23. In their first year in the Combined Counties, Spartans had a 17th-placed finish, followed by 15th the following season as they look to build year on year at Step 6. The goals of Lewis Davis in the 2023/24 season saw him net 22 times in the league.

Season 2025/26 represents their fourth in Division 1 of the Combined Counties League. Spartans recently moved from Northwood to Bedfont’s ‘The Orchard’ to be nearer to their Brentford home. At all times on this journey, they have not forgotten their rationale for setting up the club; to give affordable football with clear and structured training to children and adults of all ages and abilities. They are hoping to continue to reap the rewards with young players moving forward to represent the adults’ team in future seasons.
