Pass and Follow

A passing warm-up on the same circle as the Scanning Circle. One ball: an outside player passes into the middle and follows their pass in; the player in the middle passes out to the next player on the circle and follows out to take their place. A continuous pass-and-follow that warms up passing, movement and communication.

Objective

A passing and movement warm-up: pass and ALWAYS follow your pass, in to the middle or out to the circle, so players rotate continuously.

Set up

A circle of players with one in the middle, and a single ball. Same layout as the Scanning Circle.

Coaching points

  • Always follow your pass, in to the middle or back out to the circle
  • Pass firmly and accurately, and take a positive first touch to keep the tempo up
  • Call for it or use the receiver name so the timing is clear
  • Keep moving: jog the follow-run at a warm-up tempo

Progressions

  • One or two touch only in the middle
  • Add a second ball once the rotation is smooth
  • Change direction: pass out to the player the other way round the circle
  • Weak foot only
